General FAQ's

How is iPupPee different than other dog communication buttons?

Most dog communication buttons simply play a sound or recorded word when pressed. They are designed for basic training or novelty communication.

iPupPee was built for service dog teams who need something far more reliable.

When a dog presses the iPupPee button, it can instantly send Wi-Fi notifications to a phone or up to three emergency contacts. The built-in camera and two-way audio allow contacts to see what is happening and communicate through the device in real time.

This means a trained service dog can do more than make a sound in the room. They can reach the people who need to know.

For handlers with conditions such as seizures, mobility limitations, or fainting disorders, that difference can be critical.

iPupPee bridges the gap between a dog’s alert behavior and the outside help that may be needed.

Does the app cost money?

No. The iPupPee app is free to download and use.

Once your device is set up, the app allows you to receive alerts, view the live camera feed, and communicate through the two-way speaker at no additional cost.

The app is available for both iOS (Apple App Store) and Android (Google Play) devices.

At this time, there are no monthly subscription fees required to use the core features of the iPupPee system.

How can I train my dog to use the iPupPee button?

Most service dogs already know how to perform alert behaviors, retrieve objects, or activate tasks on cue. Pressing the iPupPee button is typically a natural action that can be incorporated into their existing training.

Every iPupPee includes a step-by-step training guide and a video walkthrough led by professional dog trainer Brian Gagye. These resources show how to introduce the button, reinforce the behavior, and build consistency so the dog understands when to activate it.

Many trainers start by rewarding the dog for interacting with the button, then gradually shape the behavior into a reliable press.

As with any service dog task, repetition and consistency are key. Most teams find that once the dog understands the connection between pressing the button and the response it creates, the behavior becomes very reliable.

If additional guidance is needed, trainers familiar with task training can easily incorporate iPupPee into a dog’s existing skill set.

Does iPupPee Call 911?

No. iPupPee does not directly call emergency services.

Instead, when the button is pressed, iPupPee sends an instant notification through the app to the handler and up to three trusted contacts. These contacts can immediately open the live video feed, see what is happening, and communicate through the built-in speaker if needed.

From there, those contacts can decide the best course of action, whether that means calling the handler, coming to check in person, or contacting emergency services.

This approach ensures the alert reaches real people who know the situation and can respond appropriately.

What if my dog is too big/small?

Yes. The iPupPee button was designed so dogs of many sizes can activate it comfortably.

The button requires only about half a pound of pressure, allowing smaller dogs to press it easily with their paw. In testing, dogs as small as 4 pounds have successfully activated the device.

For larger breeds, stability is just as important as sensitivity. Each iPupPee includes non-slip pads on the base and two optional double-sided adhesive strips that help keep the device firmly in place on the floor. This prevents movement when larger dogs press the button.

We have tested the device with dogs weighing over 130 pounds, and the button remained stable during use.

The goal is to make sure the button is easy to press and stays in position so your dog can perform the task reliably.

Is there a sound for my dog to hear when they press the button?

Yes. When the iPupPee button is pressed, the device emits a brief confirmation sound.

This sound provides immediate feedback so the dog learns that their action successfully activated the button. In training, this type of feedback helps reinforce the connection between pressing the button and the response that follows.

Over time, the dog learns that pressing the button triggers both the sound and the notification sent through the app.

For service dog teams, this consistent feedback can help build a reliable task that the dog understands and performs with confidence.

What if no one is home when my dog presses the button?

iPupPee was designed so a notification does not depend on one person being nearby.

When the button is pressed, the device sends an instant Wi-Fi alert through the iPupPee app. That alert can be delivered to up to three trusted contacts at the same time, such as family members, caregivers, or emergency contacts.

Those contacts can immediately open the live video feed through the app to see what is happening and communicate through the built-in speaker if needed.

This means a trained service dog can reach people outside the home, not just someone in the same room.

For many handlers, having multiple contacts receive the alert adds an important layer of safety if help is needed.

Can I use multiple devices?

Yes. You can connect multiple iPupPee devices to the same account.

Some handlers choose to place devices in different areas of the home so their service dog can activate an alert from wherever they are nearby. For example, one device may be placed near a bed and another in a living or working area.

All connected devices send notifications through the same iPupPee app, allowing alerts to reach you and your trusted contacts no matter which button is pressed.

This setup can help create consistent access points for your dog to trigger an alert when it matters most.

Is iPupPee water-resistant?

iPupPee is designed primarily for indoor use or covered environments.

Most service dog teams place the device in a consistent location inside the home where the dog can easily access it when an alert is needed. Keeping the device indoors helps ensure reliable Wi-Fi connectivity and protects the electronics.

On dry days, some users temporarily place the device near a doorway or covered outdoor area so their dog can signal when they are ready to come back inside.

At this time, iPupPee is not designed to be exposed to rain or standing water.
